The short version
- Our goal is for heardbybuzzy.com to meet WCAG 2.2 at level AA. We are not there yet, and we say so below.
- On October 10 and 11, 2026 we ran automated and keyboard tests on twelve of the site's pages, at phone and desktop sizes. The other pages have not been tested yet.
- We know about some problems, listed below, and we are fixing them.
- We have not yet tested with real screen readers, and we have not yet reviewed the demo app.
- If anything on the site is hard for you to use, email or call us. We will reply within 14 days and help you another way.
Our goal
We want everyone who works in a kitchen to be able to use Heard, including people who use a keyboard only, a screen reader, large text, high zoom or reduced motion. Our target is the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) version 2.2, level AA. We do not claim to meet it fully today.
What we tested, and how
We tested twelve pages of the live site:
- Pages: the home page, About, Features, the Voice feature page, the Blog index, one blog post ("What are par levels"), the Glossary, the Demo page, the Talk (booking) page, the Waitlist page, the "Works with" page and the Privacy policy.
- Sizes: a phone-sized screen (390 pixels wide) and a desktop screen (1440 pixels wide).
- Automated checks: the axe-core testing tool in Chrome, checking against WCAG 2.0, 2.1 and 2.2 at levels A and AA.
- Keyboard: we tabbed through the pages to make sure every link, button and input can be reached, that the focus ring is visible, that there are no keyboard traps, and that the skip link and mobile menu work.
- Zoom and reflow: we checked the first nine pages at 200 percent and 400 percent zoom for sideways scrolling.
- Motion: we checked that moving backgrounds stop when your system asks for reduced motion.
- Contrast: we measured text colors against their backgrounds.
On October 11, 2026 the automated checks found no serious or critical problems on these twelve pages at either size. A few contrast warnings appear only while text is still fading in, and go away once it has finished.
Pages we have not tested
The site has about 45 pages. We tested twelve. The other pages, including the other blog posts and the other feature pages, have not been tested yet. Many share the same layout as the tested pages, but we have not checked them, so we do not claim they pass.
What we have fixed
Since our first test on October 10, 2026:
- The demo video now has a written version. Under the video on the Demo page, "Read what is said" lists every line the cooks say, every reply from Heard and every change on the board, with the second it shows.
- The video frame is labelled as a group, not as an image, so its Play button is no longer hidden inside a picture.
- The "3 jobs" tag on the Demo page and the "16" count on the Features page now have enough contrast.
- The logo and the four "Tap to copy" buttons now have spoken names that contain their visible words.
- The home page's main heading comes first at desktop width.
- Moving backgrounds have a pause button. "Pause animation" at the bottom of the home, Demo and Talk pages stops the slow drift. Your choice is kept as you move between pages. The drift still stops by itself if your system asks for reduced motion.
- The focus ring shows on every control we tabbed to, including the suggestion chips on phone-sized screens. Before, those chips could take focus while still hidden.
Known problems
- The demo video's sound has no caption track. The scene shows the cooks' words and Heard's replies on screen as it plays, and "Read what is said" lists them. We have not yet listened to check that the sound says exactly the words on screen.
- Some small text inside the pretend phone screens may be low contrast: times, "Talking as Chef Maya", "The reply shows here" and "Try saying". These are pictures of the app, and we have not confirmed them by eye yet.
- A few other texts may be low contrast. The "Talk to us" button on the par levels blog post and the "Try the demo" button on the About page sit just under the required contrast. The "Braised short rib" line in the home page's TV card may be too light. We have not confirmed these by eye yet.
- On the Voice feature page, on a phone-sized screen, a long reply in the pretend phone can run over the "Try saying" label and the chip below it.
What we have not tested yet
- Real screen readers (NVDA, VoiceOver, TalkBack). Our checks were automated and by keyboard.
- Real phones, Safari and Firefox.
- Dark mode and Windows high contrast mode.
- The booking calendar on the Talk page. That page is run by Google inside a frame, and we cannot test or change what is inside it. If you cannot complete a booking there, email or call us and we will book the time for you.
- The Heard demo app at app.heardbybuzzy.com. It has not had an accessibility review yet.
- The roughly 30 other site pages named above.
